Frequently Asked Questions:
When are the courses?
Courses are on-going and are held throughout the year with no breaks for school holidays. Your child can join at any point in a course subject to availability.
What age can children start?
Children may start lessons once they are 4 1/2 years of age, but this will be subject to an assessment lesson to assess the childs readiness to take part.
If we find your child is not yet ready we will suggest you visit a pool on a regular basis to build confidence and have fun.
Do you have a waiting list?
Yes, depending on how flexible you are and whether classes are full at the time you apply.
Do you close during school holidays?
No, but we do close on Bank Holidays and over the Christmas period. Continuity is important and builds greater confidence.
I have more than one child, will they be able to have lessons on the same day and at the same or similar times?
We always try to accomodate families on the same day and time if the ability of the children enables this and there are spaces.
Do I need to bring floatation aids for my child if they cannot swim unaided?
We provide floatation discs, but if your child requires inflatable armbands please bring your own.
Can Parents stay on poolside?
To minimise distraction during lessons we ask parents to view lessons from the cafe.
If your child needs help to get dressed following their lesson, please wait until the lesson is over before coming onto poolside.
What time should children arrive on poolside?
No more than 5 minutes before the lesson is due to start, this is ample time to get changed.
Children / parents arriving too early cause disruptions and distractions for the classes in progress.
Are your teachers qualified?
Our teachers hold Amatuer Swimming Association (ASA) qualifications and are DBS checked.
We implement the ASA's Wavepower Child Safeguarding policy and procedures.
Do children have to wear a swimming cap?
If your child has hair that will get in the way when they swim / submerge we advise wearing a swim cap.
What are the maximum teacher / pupil ratios?
Stage 1 & 2 10 swimmers with 1 poolside teacher and 1 assistant in the water
Stage 3 & 4 10 swimmers with 1 poolside teacher
Stage 5 & 6 20 Swimmers with 2 poolside teachers
Stage 7 & 8 20 Swimmers with 1 poolside teacher
