City of Chester Swimming Club
Developing excellence one stroke at a time
City of Chester Swimming Club provides lessons for children from non-swimmer to an advanced level with a natural transition into competitive swimming or water polo if the appropriate standard is achieved. Lessons are for children from the age of 4 1/2 years and cater for children at Primary School. Prior to starting formal swimming lessons we suggest you visit a pool with your child on a regular basis to build confidence and have fun. Lessons continue throughout school holidays to give continuity and to enhance learning.
All teachers hold ASA Teaching and the ASA/RLSS Teachers rescue test, our teachers are CRB checked. Teacher pupil ratio Stage 1 & 2 class is 2 : 10 [One teacher on the poolside and one Assistant in the water], all other half hour groups have a ratio of 1 : 10. The hour groups have a ratio of 1 : 20.
Children make progress through the groups as they develop their strokes and achieve the awards set out for each group. Lessons are based around the ASA National Teaching Plan 2007
During each course we have 2 lessons when all groups swim lengths of the pool and this gives everyone the opportunity of experiencing shallow and deep water. Around the middle of each course we have Activity week when children will experience some themed fun games and races based on the skills they have been learning or mini water polo. On the final lesson of each course there is a certificate presentation day followed by a fun session in the pool. There is no additional charge for awards.
Distance awards longer than 200m are not undertaken during the half hour classes, these can be achieved at other times and take place on Sunday 12.00 – 2pm in the Atlantic pool. Dates are advertised on the doors to both pools and on the website a few weeks in advance of the session taking place.
Children can join at any point in a course providing there are spaces, there is usually a waiting list for spaces in the Stage 1 – 2 classes.
